The two-level rooftop interior — open kitchen and buffet, warm lanterns and the city through the glass

Our story

A quiet rooftop, run with real warmth.

Kathmandu Rooftop sits two floors above the noise of Thamel — a women-owned restaurant where the welcome matters as much as the view.

Two floors above Thamel

Built around the view, and the people in it.

The idea is simple: climb above the tangle of Thamel’s streets and find somewhere calm to eat. The 6th floor is covered and cosy; the 7th is open to the sky, with the valley and the Swayambhunath stupa laid out in front of you. The same kitchen feeds both — Nepali plates, the tandoor, and the continental food travellers crave.

Women-owned

Run by women, with a team that guests thank by name in review after review.

LGBTQ+ friendly

Everyone is welcome at this table — couples, families, solo travellers and groups.

Cooked in the open

An open kitchen, so you can watch your food being made and know exactly what arrives.

The house speciality

Guests leave thanking the staff by name.

It is the line that comes up again and again in reviews — the food is fresh and generous, the view is unforgettable, but it is the people who make it. Attentive, personal, never rushed. That is the part of Kathmandu Rooftop you can’t photograph, and it is the reason guests come back.

From the owners

“Come up, take a seat by the rail, and let the city slow down for an evening.”

We’re keeping the founders’ full story for this space — it will be added here soon. In the meantime, the best introduction is a table at golden hour.
